Life’s been a roller coaster

I know it’s been quite a while since I have last written, and since then we have had some ups and downs. My PG was doing amazing, taking 1 mile walks without her sling and moving about the house on her own (downstairs only) –  life seemed to be going along normally. That was until I decided that my stinky girl was in need of a bath, so, I took her to the groomers. I know it’s my fault for not insisting they take the sling, I should have known better, well sure enough PG slipped on their tile floor and pulled a muscle in her right front shoulder. My poor girl, she doesn’t have a leg to spare any longer, and was really struggling to walk. I took her to our vet the next day, and they gave her an anti-inflammatory shot and a weeks worth of pills. I hate giving PG medicine, it changes her personality so much and all she wants to do is sleep. I know that sleep is a good thing so that her muscles can heal, but she seems so sad. Well, after a week, she was doing so much better, just about to her old self, even going for walks again without her sling, when again, she slipped – this time on a pair of my daughter’s friend’s shoes Halloween night. The last couple of days she looked a little sore, but nothing like it was from her slip at the groomers. But today, she’s holding that leg up 🙁 So, it’s back to the vet we go this afternoon. To top it off, our house is complete hardwood floors. I have purchased area rugs, runners, smaller rugs for the smaller areas, but she always seems to find that 1 ft. of carpet-free space to slip on (that’s where the shoes were). Life’s sure been a roller coaster…I’m hoping it’s mostly uphill from here on out.

My little witchie poo and her pumpkin girl (I think PG was embarrassed by her costume 🙂 )

Oh my gosh, how cute they are together!

I’m so sorry to hear of PG3’s falls. Have you ever tried booties on her? I haven’t needed them with Abby, but I know there is a particular type that some of the tripawds folks use. I’m sure someone could recommend something. I wonder if that would help??

You might want to post a question in the forums – that way more people will see it and you can get some good advice. I’ve also heard there is some sort of wax or something you can put on the dog’s pads.

Good luck!! Hope she’s all better soon! Gotta be ready for when Daddy comes home.

we were thinking of the waxy stuff too…is it ‘musher’s secret’??? geesh pg3, you need to be more careful and not scare your mom so!!!!! if the soreness continues, you might want to consider acupuncture on the shoulder and leg….it can help. love that picture too!!

Great Howloween picture!!! In addition to the booties, there are also traction socks, which I understand are a little more comfortable for the pups to wear. I too have hardwood and tile, and it seems that Rio always finds the slippery spots…

Just got back from the Vet, she pulled the muscle again. Vet recommended the booties also. We had them for her when we bought our previous house because it was new and we didn’t have any grass and cleaning her paws EVERY TIME she went out was getting old!! I can’t find those, but will be purchasing a pair today. I found one, Ultra Paws brand, do either of you know anything about these?

Well, I just ordered the Ruff Wear Skyliner Bark’n Boots from Tripawds!! Since we do a lot of outdoor activity, I thought it best to get a bootie that she could wear inside and out. Hopefully they’ll get here soon! 🙂 Thanks everyone!

PG, we’re so sorry about those falls. we have a great selection of boots in our Tripawds Gear blog. I recommend starting with the PAWZ disposable brand, to see if she will tolerate them.

One other thing I want to say, and it’s not easy to say this, hope I don’t offend PG, but is she overweight at all? If so, this could also be contributing to her difficulty in getting around. A Tripawd should be thinner than the average dog.

Let us know how we can help.

My other comment got spammed, but I did order the Ruff Wear Skyliner Bark’n Boots from Tripawds. She has worn booties in the past, so I think after a while she’ll get used to them again.

And no offense taken, she was a little overweight, has lost 10 lbs. since all this has happened, so she’s now 71 lbs (she looks chubbier in the pic than she is). I think if she loses another 5-6 lbs she’ll be better. She doesn’t have an issue outside or on the carpet, it’s just the tiled and hardwood floor areas. Thank you!
