Living in the moment…

First I want to thank all of you for your kind words of support and inspiration. You comments have warmed my heart and have given me something I didn’t have much of, hope and strength. You are all right about the fact that Piper doesn’t know she has cancer, she is living in the moment and I must live in that moment with her. I did speak with the Dr. Marti and PG3’s prognosis hasn’t changed; without chemo she may live 6 months, with it there may only be a 50% she could live a year. I was able to speak with my husband last night and I think we have decided, as much as it pains my heart and soul, to let PG3 enjoy the time she has left and let nature take it’s course.

AbbysMom wrote me this, “None of us knows how much time we have left – so let your pup show you how to live in the moment.” It’s so true and reminds me of one of my favorites quotes: “Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.”

I plan of having lots of breath-taking moments with my PG3.

Glad you are getting hope and strength from this site – I found the same thing. It’s sometimes hard to remember to live in the moment, but we keep practicing, each day. Love the quote you mention. Definitely so true!!

May you still have many, many days of beautiful moments with your lovely girl,

It’s tough not to think of the future….but as someone has said before….”think more dog”….they live in the moment 🙂
Hugs to you and your family. Enjoy your PG3!

Abby’s Mom is amazing, and helped me with the Chili Dawg. The people you will meet on this journey and on this website are going to help you out so much, I promise you. It’s nice to not have to go through it alone. Live in the moment- take lots of pictures and make lots of memories.

  7. What Abby’s mom said is so true – living in the moment is so important! Our dogs do live in the moment because that’s all they know. We are the only ones who know they have cancer. We are the only ones with our hearts broken. Take comfort in Piper’s love and all of her beautiful moments! Embrace them in your heart. I knew one day I would have to say goodbye to my Indy. But I didn’t want to think about the sadness… I also didn’t want to get my hopes up to high & wish for years (as much as I would have loved that) I just wished for “one more day” to love him. I made each day count and took so many pictures and videos that will now last me a lifetime. I was lucky to have the miracle of time. I wish this for you & all of our Tripawds!! Much love from the spirit of Indiana’s mom ~Carol~~

Always remember, those statistics are numbers based on a controlled group of dogs. They don’t take into account your Piper’s spunk and drive or past medical history. Not saying that the stats aren’t right, but that many dogs make those docs look super silly when they outlive those prognoses!

Like me! I didn’t have chemo either, and went on to kick butt for 2 more years, all the way to my “normal” lifespan of a big dawg.

Always remember that there are no “right” decisions about cancer, just the ones that feel good in your heart. Do what’s right for your pack, and you can’t go wrong!
